Dorset & Somerset. As well as the famous city port of Bristol and historic towns like Bath and Wells (Wells Cathedral has a clock with jousting knights), this region contains numerous towns and villages favoured by tourists. The coastal resorts of Weston-super-Mare, Burnham-on-Sea, Bournemouth and Minehead are but four examples from many. We can also mention Glastonbury (with its fascinating contingent of ageing hippy shopkeepers) and Lyme Regis, a seaside location popular with fossil hunters as well as those pursuing more usual pastimes. Elsewhere, rolling farmlands enclose ancient market towns.
